2nd Congressional District Race Headed for Ranked Choice Voting Rounds

11/7/18, Maine First Media Staff Report,

Republicans are holding out hope to have one member of Maine’s D.C. delegation in 2019.

No candidates crossed the 50% threshold in the Pine Tree State’s 2nd Congressional District. Incumbent Republican Bruce Poliquin and Democrat Jarred Golden will now face-off in a couple of rounds of Ranked Choice Voting.

Right now, Poliquin holds a slim 766 vote lead over Golden. However, as of early Wednesday morning, there are still 119 precincts left to report.

William Hoar received almost 5,500 votes. The second and third place votes from Hoar supporters will be divided. If still no candidate breaks 50%, election officials will look at the second place votes of Tiffany Bond’s 13,000 supporters.

Both Hoar and Bond lean Left, giving an RCV advantage to Golden.

On election night, Democrats won control of the U.S. House of Representatives, while Republicans expanded their lead in the U.S. Senate.
