9/6/18, Maine First Media Staff Report,
An illegal alien and one other suspect ran from police during a roadside drug investigation in South Portland.
The vehicle search found crack cocaine and a large sum of cash. A member of Troop G and the Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (PACE) Team stopped a vehicle on Maine Mall Road in South Portland on September 2nd around 11:30 pm. The Officer seized 18-Grams of crack and $2,500 in suspected drug proceeds.
Mekonnen Berhe, 27, of Westbrook and Abdirizak Farah, 27, of South Portland, were both arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
According to Maine State Police, Berhe is an illegal alien.
Maine-first Rep. Larry Lockman (R-Amherst) says criminal aliens have no place in Maine.
“When a crime is committed by an illegal alien — that crime was 100% preventable,” Rep. Lockman said. “If this criminal alien was dealing drugs as he is charged — then there is no telling how many lives Berhe destroyed.”
The Republican from Amherst tells Maine First Media this is just the latest example of the need to defund Harboring Havens in Maine.
“Harboring Havens policies — like we see in Portland — prevent Maine’s finest from doing their jobs to the best of their abilities,” Rep. Lockman said. “Harboring Havens put Maine families at risk, and they act as a giant magnet louring more illegals to our great state. We must defund Harboring Havens and stop the flow of illegals into Maine.”
Maine First Media first reported on this story on Facebook Monday. However, if you read the Portland Press Herald’s coverage of the crime, you’d never know one of the suspects was in Maine illegally.
PPH identifies Berhe as a “Westbrook man,” and makes no mention to his immigration status. This is further evidence of Maine’s Fake News media’s absolute allergic reaction to facts when they don’t fit the narrative the Left wants to tell.
Another "new Mainer" in the news….
Fake News @PressHerald
lives up to low expectations.
Report on the drug bust in South Portland neglects to mention that the suspect is an illegal alien with prior criminal convictions. #mepoliticshttps://t.co/HjBebjW854

According to State Police, Berhe was charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs, Violation of Conditions of Release, and Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention. Bail was denied as he was already on multiple sets of bail from a previous arrest.
That means this illegal alien has a previous rap sheet but yet was not deported — and was even released back to the streets after his prior crimes.
Farah was charged with Operating after Suspension and Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention. Bail was set at $300.
State Police say the two suspects fled once the Officer began his search of their car. They were caught and arrested following a foot pursuit.
Scarborough PD and South Portland PD assisted with the arrest. Mug shots were not available for unknown reasons.
