“Each generation has to win it anew because freedom is not something given to you.”
This lyric from an Up With People song back in 1965 remains true today.
And it is in that spirit, the Richmond Republican Town Committee and former Special Advisor to Gov. Paul LePage, Aaron Chadbourne, are throwing an event in celebration and defense of our constitutional rights.
The Constiution Protection rally is set for Monday, June 4th, from 7pm-9pm at The Quarry Tap Room in Hallowell. It is a free event, but there is a suggested donation of $10.
At the event, there will be a 1st Amendment stage, for people to talk about freedom. Gubernatorial candidates have not been invited to speak, as organizers want to focus on the cause, not the candidates.
And in honor of the 2nd Amendment, organizers will be raffling away two guns.
Event organizer, Aaron Chadbourne says Mainers see that their rights are under attack in today’s society.
“People are worried about the erosion of our fundamental, Constitutional rights,” Chadbourne said. “The rights that made it into the Bill of Rights, which is the reason we were able to put this country together.”
While the event is about protecting Constitutional rights, attendees shouldn’t expect an evening full of lectures.
“It’ll be a party, it’ll be a rally, there will be speeches, there will be song…people just happy and talking about freedom,” Chadbourne said.
There will even be surprise celebrity bartenders.
Proceeds from the event will be split between:
- Richmond Republican Town Committee,
- Chadbourne’s non-profit organization, Rural Maine Possibilities Foundation,
- Travis Mills Foundation,
- Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Center.
You can keep up with updates on the party between now and June 4th on this Facebook event page.
