3/13/18, Maine First Media Staff Report,
President Donald Trump has fired his Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.
Fox News is reporting the firing came Tuesday morning following Tillerson’s Africa trip.
President Trump cited policy disagreements as the reason for the dismissal.
The President will appoint current CIA Director, Mike Pompeo as the next Secretary of State.
Pompeo’s deputy, Gina Haspel will be promoted to the Director spot. Haspel is now the first woman ever nominated to be Director of the CIA.
Both appointments will require confirmation from the Senate. Once Tillerson leaves his post, Deputy Secretary John Sullivan will act as Secretary until the confirmation.
President Trump pointed to the Iran deal — struck by President Barack Obama and then-Secretary of State John Kerry — as one of the major areas of disagreement between himself and Tillerson. President Trump says the deal is terrible, while Tillerson didn’t think it was that bad.
According to President Trump, he and Pompeo have a “similar thought process,” and are “on the same wavelength.”
The President is said to have wanted his new team in place before his upcoming trade meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jung Un.
