The Mosher Minutes: Stop Playing Politics, End Gun-Free Zones!

2/19/18, by James Mosher,

Albert Einstein defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Here we go again!

Last week, seventeen lives ended abruptly at the hands of a madman with a gun. Progressives quickly gloss over the fact that the mass murder occurred in a gun-free zone.

Gun-control advocates haven’t wasted a minute pushing their propaganda. Suffice it to say; you can’t get a more progressive utopian concept than “gun free.” Yet, signs prohibiting guns and laws restricting the possession of firearms once again failed to stop murder.

In keeping with the Leftist strategy of never letting a crisis go to waste, the drumbeat continues:

  • Ban the AR-15 and other unnecessary weapons of war. People today have been conditioned to embrace wickedness. Because of the prevalence of violence in movies, games, and other forms of social media, it is necessary to defang the population by making it difficult to own “rapid-fire guns;”
  • Blame the cops and the NRA;
  • Advocate for more gun control;
  • Constrain gun rights for the mentally ill and those with a history of abuse.

Nikolas de Jesus Cruz is just the latest perpetrator. And to address the madness of his wicked act, the left suggests further constraints on the rights of the law-abiding. Cruz broke numerous laws last week as he mowed down the students and faculty of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with his rifle.

Gun-grabbers tell us that things are the problem. They point to countries like the UK,  Japan, Germany, and Australia, as proof-positive of the notion, “gun free” is better.

This morning on The George Hale &Ric Tyler Show, (WVOM 101.3), I listened to George Hale (roughly 5:20 into the segment) reference the emphasis of police training in Germany as a reason for the low rate of law enforcement related shootings. I phoned-in (roughly 6:51) to mention Germany’s rape epidemic and suggested that if the lasses of Europe were permitted to carry concealed handguns, perhaps the continent would not be reeling from the amplified victimization of women by migrants.

What if the problem is not wicked things, but wicked people?

Most of us understand, we live in a world where evil exists. In fact, the scriptures are emphatic about the human condition: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

We really don’t have to wonder. Statistics offer plenty of support to validate the claim. Each year, in the United States, potential heinous acts are thwarted by millions of law-abiding gun owners. That is, citizens utilize their constitutional right of self-preservation to prevent the advances of would-be assailants.

Consider these facts from Gun Owners of America:

  • “While the misuse of firearms generates publicity, the proper use of them for self-defense rarely does. Americans use firearms for protection more than two-million times each year. Ninety-eight percent of the time, they only brandish their weapons or fire warning shots. However, each year gun-wielding citizens kill between 2,000 and 3,000 criminals in self-defense, an astounding three times the number killed by police.”
  • “Nationwide, according to John R. Lott, Jr., there are more than 20,000 gun-control laws that regulate everything from who can own guns, how they can be bought, to where a person can possess or use them. ‘The biggest problem with gun-control laws,’ writes Lott, ‘is that those who are intent on harming others, and especially those who plan to commit suicide, are the least likely to obey them’… Violent crime is 81% higher in states that do not have concealed-carry laws than in those that do. Robbery is 105% higher, and murder is 86% higher where law-abiding citizens are denied the right to carry concealed guns. Moreover, the FBI’s annual crime figures for all 3,054 counties over a recent 15-year period show that states with the largest increases in gun ownership also had the largest drops in violent crimes.”

It comes down to mere physics. In order to counter a strong negative force, it must be upset by an overwhelmingly positive force.

Wayne LaPierre puts it much better: “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

It really is that simple. Evil exists, and it must be checked.

The Left wishes to exploit the evil to advance their agenda.

David Horowitz provides insight into the progressive mind in his book Radicals: Portraits of a Destructive Passion. Horowitz states, “In Rules for Radicals, Alinsky wrote: ‘From the moment an organizer enters a community, he lives, dreams, eats, breathes, sleeps only one thing, and that is to build the mass power base of what he calls the army.’ The issue is never the issue. The issue is always building the army. The issue is always the revolution.”

The Left wants to disarm the American people because control is the desired outcome. The accomplishment of the goal most likely will come through the implementation of bureaucratic hurdles. They will not stop until every last one of us have been rendered subservient.

They purpose to take away valuable tools like guns and replace them with worthless pap like the mantra: “See something, say something!”

If I had a dollar for every time I have heard it over the years, I would have enough to take my family on a nice vacation.

The cases of Parkland, San Bernadino, Boston, Orlando, Las Vegas, etc., should inform us that despite all the technological achievement of our day, it is still possible for evil to slip through the bureaucratic cracks. Yet, these facts don’t hinder gun-control advocates from proposing more onerous bureaucratic red tape hog-tying law-abiding gun owners.

Criminals do not care about laws, but the law-abiding must endure them!

In 2012, right after the Sandy Hook murders, Wayne LaPierre put forth a plan to protect our children while at school. We could apply the same speech today because nothing has changed. He said:

“Because for all the noise and anger directed at us over the past week, no one, nobody has addressed the most important, pressing and immediate question we face: How do we protect our children right now, starting today, in a way that we know works? The only way to answer that question is to face the truth. Politicians pass laws for gun-free school zones; they issue press releases bragging about them. They post signs advertising them. And, in doing so, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk. How have our nation’s priorities gotten so far out of order? Think about it. We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, courthouses, even sports stadiums are all protected by armed security…the truth is that our society is populated by an unknown number of genuine monsters. People that are so deranged, so evil, so possessed by voices and driven by demons, that no sane person can every possibly comprehend them. They walk among us every single day and does anybody really believe that the next Adam Lanza isn’t planning his attack on a school, he’s already identified at this very moment?… As parents, we do everything we can to keep our children safe. It’s now time for us to assume responsibility for our schools. The only way — the only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection.”

The Left ridicules him and continues to blame the NRA in spite of the facts. The NRA provides valuable services and training for millions of gun owners across the country, who are not criminals, but responsible, law-abiding citizens.

If Hollywood elites and Washington bureaucrats find safety behind bodyguards with guns, why do we allow them to push a different narrative for our children?

Charlie Daniels sums up the issue rather nicely:

“I have no desire to be an alarmist, and I am very serious about the statement I am about to make. And I hope, with all my heart, that it is totally wrong, but I sincerely believe that the chances of terrorist chaos in the streets of America, attacks on shopping malls, public gatherings and even in neighborhoods are all but imminent… the day could well come when multiple terrorist attacks could so overwhelm local police, and federal agencies that the only protection private citizens would have is their personal firearms…the likelihood of terrorist sleeper cells in America is extremely high, and if, God forbid, they take the battle to the streets of America, you don’t want to be caught with a slingshot and butcher knife…bearing arms is our right, and protecting our families is our responsibility, and it could become very hard to do one without the other.”

The facts of our world substantiate his claim.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

  • You, Wayne LaPierre, Charlie Daniels and millions of Americans understand what will work: training and arming teachers and school systems hiring ex-military and off duty law enforcement officers to protect our children. In reality, the elite political Left and their enablers in the MSM also know that this strategy WILL work. They just can’t admit it since it will destroy their narrative that it’s wicked things, not wicked people who are responsible. It’s no different than their mantra after a jihadist attack that their motivation has nothing to do with Islamic doctrine.

Simply put, the hard-Left wants total gun confiscation. The current crop of Marxist revolutionaries are no different in their thinking than the Nazis and communists who disarmed their civilian populations causing multiple millions of innocent people to be exterminated. I hate to think it but these people might even be willing to sacrifice some poor souls in order to achieve their long term goals no matter how they dress up their cause. They are the evil ones, not those who believe in the 2nd Amendment.

  • “The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.”
    — Adolph Hitler, Hitler’s Secret Conversations 403 (Norman Cameron and R.H. Stevens trans., 1961)

The “Right to bear arms” under the second amendment was a matter of great debate by the framers. I hear socialist talking points constantly misrepresenting the second amendment and its real purpose.

This right has never had anything to do with sport, hunting, etc. THe argument that “one doesn’t need a 40 round clip or an AK to hunt dear” is clearly designed to move attention away from the founder’s purpose.

The bastardizing of the amendment’s references to “Militia” attempts to convince a distracted public and amenable generations to believe that the founder’s concerns were to protect the continental United State from foreign attacks.

Of course, this is not true. Replete throughout the Federalist Papers are very clear arguments for the need of the public to defend the people from governmental tyranny. In order to maintain this fail-safe, the public should not be restricted or limited by the vary entity we seek to protect ourselves from.
