4/3/18, by James Mosher,
The gun control madness continues since the Parkland, Florida murders. Leftists have not relented despite the fundamental exhortation of the 2nd Amendment:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The phrase “shall not be infringed” could not be any clearer, and yet, “progressives” continue the march to dismantle the Constitutional right of self-preservation. They tell us that their agenda is not about gun control, that it is about curtailing gun violence. This is a trick.
The movement most certainly is about repealing the 2nd Amendment (the most radical of the bunch are even making tee-shirts and bumper stickers saying as much). If they can’t sever the head, they will settle for a death by a thousand cuts.
Tuesday the Judiciary Committee will hear arguments regarding LD 1884, An Act To Create A Community Protection Order to allow courts to prevent High-risk individuals from Possessing Firearms. Rep. Mark Dion (D-Cumberland) is the “Red Flag Bill’s” sponsor.
Here’s the gist:
“A law enforcement officer or a family or household member of a high-risk individual may file a petition requesting that the court issue a temporary community protection order prohibiting and enjoining the high-risk individual who is the subject of the petition from having in that individual’s custody or control or owning, purchasing, possessing or receiving a firearm or attempting to purchase or receive a firearm. A petition for a temporary community protection order must describe any firearm that the petitioner reasonably believes the high-risk individual possesses or controls.”
So, if the prohibition of murder isn’t enough, community protection orders will be?
First, community protection orders don’t prevent murders. Good men with guns do. Almost seven years ago, in the small town of Dexter, Maine, Steven Lake murdered his wife and two children before killing himself. He violated a protection order while committing the murders.
Second, we have been indoctrinated with the mantra “if you see something, say something.” In case after case, criminals have been on the radar of law enforcement agencies, for one reason or another, but somehow, some way, manage to slip through the cracks. Nikolas Cruz is just the latest example. The bureaucracy has failed to keep Americans safe time and again. Meanwhile, legislators like Rep. Dion propose protection orders as a fix? Come on!
Third, there are already roughly 20,000 laws on the books regarding the possession and usage of firearms. “Progressives” would have us believe that more laws are necessary. In an article for the Portland Press Herald, Maine gubernatorial candidate Mark Eves listed his remedy: background checks, blacklist the NRA, outlaw high capacity magazines and bump stocks, and utilize protection orders to keep guns out of the hands of madmen.
Eves’ comments are incredibly brazen given that there are many members of the NRA who call Maine home. I am one of them.
I purchased my lifetime membership because I believe in the NRA’s mission. Firearm training and safeguarding 2nd Amendment liberty are both vital to the preservation of freedom.
However, Eves couldn’t care less: “There is one thing we don’t need here in Maine: the NRA. Stay out of our state. We don’t want you here. You’ve done enough. And we’ve had enough…It’s time to tell politicians you either take a stand and stop the gun violence, or get out of the way for someone who will.”
Here’s both the irony and the danger of the proposal for community protection orders: During the 127th, Mark Eves was the Speaker of the House. He had no problem using his power to censor my message traffic to legislators and to restrict my freedom.
I was in Augusta for several weeks urging legislators to enforce federal immigration law. Instead of locking the doors to illegals here in Maine, Speaker Eves chose to harass me, a law-abiding husband, father, and veteran who was attempting to raise awareness of the risks that open-border Leftists have exposed us to. Eves utilized the Capitol Police to chaperone me as soon as I arrived at the State House and was able to do so simply by alleging that I was a threat.
Yes, you have got that right! The “progressive” lawmakers who lecture law-abiding gun owners about increased gun control every time evil strikes — are also the facilitators of illegal immigration.
And if you happen to be on the receiving end of their bullying, they are free to lob a claim that forever impacts your Constitutional rights. That is, as long as their advances go unimpeded.
If you don’t fight them today, you will be paying the price tomorrow.
It doesn’t take much to connect the dots to see how onerous gun legislation like LD 1884 could be used to harass law-abiding gun owners. All you need to do is find yourself on the opposite end of an argument with one of the PC-thought-police. As long as their statements are convincing enough, you will lose big league.
This is why it is so vital for you to act now.
If you care about the future of our country, it is time to engage. The “progressive” army is on the move. They are motivated, entrenched, and persistent. The sad truth is, most American families are too busy paying bills and just trying to raise families. Leftist operatives are running circles around us in legislatures across the country.
Please take a moment and contact the members of the Judiciary Committee. Remind them that our legal system is based upon a presumption of innocence. Due process undergirds the functionality of justice in our nation’s courts, and we don’t want that to change.
Don’t let the gun-grabbing Left run away with the narrative.
It is not gun violence, but people violence. Evil ends only when good men demonstrate sufficient force to squelch it. Guns are a valuable asset to that end. The founding fathers were painfully aware of this and hence their emphasis that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
