3/12/18, Maine First Media Staff Report,
As Mainers prepare for the nor-easter barreling toward us, the storm has caused a major rescheduling of the legislative calendar.
Most of Tuesday’s schedule is being moved to Thursday, March 15th.
Arguably the most compelling piece of business from Tuesday’s docket was LD 1833 the Harboring Haven Penalty bill. The public hearing will now be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Judiciary Committee room.
The Maine Chapter of American Civil Liberties Union was planning a protest of the bill, but they’ve canceled the “event.” The protest was nixed on March 8th, and they do not cite the weather as a factor. However, judging by the number of engagements on the page, it appears lack of interest in making sure our police officer remain handcuffed and unable to do their jobs while illegal aliens are harbored and provided benefits could be a cause of the cancelation.
Maine First Media will continue to cover LD 1833 as it makes its way through the legislature.
