1/20/18, Maine First Media Staff Report,
Democrats have shut down the Federal Government.
Democrats refused to vote for any funding bill that didn’t include legalization of the more than 800,000 DACA applicants.
Republicans wanted to vote on a clean funding bill to keep the government open while working on a DACA deal separately. Congress has until mid-February to figure out the DACA situation.
President Donald Trump has insisted he will not sign any DACA deal into law that doesn’t include funding for the U.S. border wall and other immigration reforms like an end to Chain Migration and the Diversity Lottery.
The President also has pointed out Democrats are shutting the government down — meaning military members may miss paychecks, and children could go without healthcare insurance (CHIP is included in the funding deal that expired at midnight) — because they aren’t getting their way on DACA.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his colleagues are effectively putting 800,000 illegal aliens above the needs of more than 320-Million legal Americans.
The Republican-controlled House did come to terms on an extension that would have funded the government for another four weeks. However, that extension failed in the Senate in a 50-48 vote. Spending bills in the U.S. Senate must receive 60 votes to pass.
The Schumer Shutdown could be shortlived. Senators are currently working to see if an agreement can be reached.
Republicans have a history of caving into Democrat demands whenever Leftists use the “shutdown” boogeyman.
The White House released this statement regarding the Schumer Shutdown political stunt:
“Senate Democrats own the Schumer Shutdown. Tonight, they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country’s ability to serve all Americans. We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands. This is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators. When Democrats start paying our armed forces and first responders we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform. During this politically manufactured Schumer Shutdown, the President and his Administration will fight for and protect the American people.”
